Providing chauffeured service to Kansas City’s business leaders means that we have the pleasure of working with some of the most poised and professional admins and executive assistants. This month we sat down with Summer Solgate, Executive Assistant to the President & CEO of EPR Properties.
Q: What brought you to Kansas City?
A: I moved to KC in 2009 from Battle Creek, Michigan where I was born and raised. It’s a rural, small and touristy kind of town where everyone knows everybody. I had been working in the mortgage industry when the housing bubble burst and I decided to get out of the area.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about Kansas City?
A: I think it’s just having more access to things to do. There are more things to learn, activities for me and my kids. I wasn’t sure about moving to a town that has songs written about it. I love NY & Chicago, but KC feels safe and comfortable. I also like to go fishing.
Q: Fishing? In Kansas City?
A: I go fishing all over Kansas City. There is a local spot I will go to right from work, James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area. Englewood has a small lake and there is also another spot over in Raytown. Smithville, too. It’s only about 30 minutes away.
I’ve always fished. My grandparents used to take me fishing. When they retired, that was what they did: hung out with me and took me fishing. I like the peacefulness of it and I appreciate it even more so now. My work days get so hectic that I appreciate the quality down time. I can spend the time with my kids and get peace and quiet with it too. It gives me that “small town” feel from where I grew up.
Occasionally, there are days when I get to leave work early to go fishing. I’ll literally text my boss and say “Gone Fishing.” Of course, I make sure that everything is taken care of before I grab my gear and go.
Q: What’s missing in KC that would make it perfect?
A: A decent beach. In Michigan, we had really good access to clean lakes, great swimming and plenty of beaches.
Q: What is your favorite EPR Property in town?
A: Top Golf! You must go! It’s kind of like a mix of bowling and golf where you don’t have to be quiet, especially when you miss. And you get to enjoy it all with your friends.
Q: What would your friends say about you?
A: Most of my friends think I’m crazy and a dork. They think I’m the fun kind of crazy. Of course, I’m nice and sweet but the fun crazy is probably tops on most of their lists.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about LEADER Limo?
A: I like the way we started out, years ago. Rene and the team have been awesome from the beginning. It’s like calling a friend who is always willing to help you solve whatever problem you are having.
Also, LEADER is the only company that can find my boss’ house. He lives in a remote part of Lawrence and I even have trouble finding it sometimes. LEADER never has a problem getting there.
